Grants

In more than 18,000 communities across the U.S., more than 75,000 Susan G. Komen for the Cure volunteers work to help fund breast cancer education, screening and treatment projects for those who need it most. Over the past five years, Komen for the Cure Affiliates—working in concert with local organizations—have awarded more than $160 million in needs-based community grants. That's in addition to the many millions Komen invests each year in promising research.

The San Francisco Bay Area Affiliate is proud to have invested over $13.0 million in local breast health and breast cancer awareness projects in the nine Bay Area counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, West Solano, and Sonoma since our inception in 1987. We accomplish this through the Race for the Cure®, the Komen Shopping Card campaign, donations from individuals, corporate contributions, benefits by community partners, and other fund-raising efforts. A minimum of 25 percent of our annual income is directed to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Medical and Science Research Grant Program that funds breast cancer research, meritorious awards, and educational and scientific conferences around the world. Up to 75% of funds raised stays in the San Francisco Bay Area to fund our affiliate's grants, education and public policy efforts.

The Komen SF Bay Area Affiliate offers grants for innovative and non-duplicative projects in the areas of breast health and breast cancer education, screening, treatment, and treatment support. We are targetting services not otherwise available to the medically underserved populations of the communities we serve - Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, West Solano (Benicia, Birds Landing, Fairfield, Suisun City, and Vallejo) and Sonoma counties.
